1/30/2018 (Permalink)

Most homeowners understand how important it is to perform maintenance to a home furnace especially during the cold months, they know that an inefficient or even a broken furnace translate in higher energy bills, a new heating unit, and unfortunately some times in a fire loss. Therefore, learning some tips to keep your furnace running is always a good strategy to save some money and keep your family warm during the winter.

1. Clean the vents:

Cleaning the heating vents around the home is important to keep your furnace running efficiently during the cold months. One thing to do is to vacuum the floor vents to remove any dust or debris, this will improve the air quality of your home and can help you preserve the furnace.

2. Inspect Furnace filters:

You can have a professional help you or you can do it yourself. You can inspect and clean the filters inside the furnace, just make sure it is off and cooled before you touch it.  There are two different kinds of filters, the disposable ones that should be changed every tree months, and the permanent ones should be washed and cleaned regularly during the cold months when you use your heat the most.

3. Check the entire system:

One of the main things to do when you think about providing maintenance to the furnace is to inspect the entire system. Some important things to check; visually check for any signs of damage around the unit, check that the pilot light is on and that the flame is steady blue, and inspect the exterior vents and the portions of the HVAC system that are kept outside, the last thing that you want is some snow, ice, leaves, and debris to break your unit.

4. Hire a professional:

We recommend that you do some of the maintenance and initial inspection to your furnace, but we also recommend to have a HVAC professional to come and perform an annual furnace maintenance.

We hope that these tips help you to keep your furnace running and that you stay warm during the coming colder days.
